Can an app save your business?

A slick and useful app wasn't enough to help American Airlines. But they did use it to promote a nice little photo contest a few months ago.
I wonder what kind of submissions they would have gotten if this contest was still running after their recent bankruptcy announcement?
At least they're still giving their passengers something to do while they wait.
