Hungry for home improvement?

Home Depot has new ads up around their 23rd street location:

Branded umbrellas and ads appeared on food carts on the surrounding block.

Messaging on cups and bags as well:

(They had a nice visual solution of this idea awhile back.)

What recession?

Caesars thinks you still deserve to live it up.

Their site has a few equally decadent spots.

How do you create co-op ads with bite?

I didn’t pay much attention to the press about Gawker “acquiring” the blog BloodCopy or the minor backlash it caused.
But I love the ads on the site:

Hope they’re running other places.
(Update: Saw one of the Mini ads on this phone booth.)

HBO has a long history of doing ads for fake products to promote their shows. But getting real brands in on the act takes it to another level.

Details on the campaign here.

The ad business is still full of characters

I just checked out Ad Boy – Vintage Advertising with Character, a new book from the guys behind Meet Mr. Product.

Lots of great graphic design and funny icons.

I think Frosty Boy has a thing going with the Lik-m-aid Girl.

Are you brave enough to stop teasing?

I am officially over teaser ads that try to send you to a blind url.
Can’t we give people a more compelling reason than a cool visual and mysterious name?

Saw these awhile back, just got around to poking around the site.

It's actually part of a solid campaign for Diesel’s new fragrance, Only The Brave. (You can read about the whole thing here.) So teasers will always have their place in the ad tool box.

The hands forming the images relate to the odd shape of the bottle. But this campaign has a completely different feel than their other print ads:

Is it possible to print a poster in HD?

I am not a fan of ads that use reflective paper.
Even if you have a great concept, the execution ruins it.

But this campaign won me over when I discovered that they tried to add a more reflective surface.

Too bad people ripped them off.

I like the balance of the crop marks on one side and the size of the mirror on the other.
The video on the site is well shot too.

Will these ad help fix the source of your caffeine fix?

I like the attitude of these lines. Makes me feel like Starbucks is good people making good coffee.

Can a lion save the planet?

The Cannes Young Lions 48 Hour Ad Contest ends this Sunday at 7 p.m. The assignment supports Oxfam’s fight against climate change. Good global cause for creatives around the world to sink their teeth into.

Bianca , Oh Boy and Meg all asked me to pimp their entries.
You can check out the rest at Cannes Lions YouTube channel.
