Year End Close Out Sale

I didn't have much time for this blog in December. So to make up for it, I used the holiday break to post all the stuff I never got around to during the past year. So everything must go!
Like this bus shelter video ad that crashed before I left for vacation.

Is it good to be king?

These ads bearing orders from the King of Gilboa appeared before the holidays.

I still think teaser campaigns have been overdone, but this one is pretty good. I like the clean design and seeming simplicity of the copy. And the kings2009.com microsite sets up some plot points without really giving anything away.

These next few play off of the medium they appear in:

Want to get naughty with a nice drink?

Stolichnaya vodka’s latest campaign wants you to party Moscow style.

Stoli.com has some cool images as well.

Does your drink taste like ass?

I guess Georgi vodka has had such success featuring a rear end in their ads that Banks Beer decided to follow suit.

Happy Hanukkah

Is running good for your digestion?

Poster Boy NYC hit this Asic’s NYC marathon ad:

Here are a few other ads from the campaign:

There’s a few more in this flickr set.

How do you want to live your life?

Seems someone took offense to the tagline “The life you were meant to live” in this Caesars Atlantic City campaign.

The text under the paraphrased Mahatma Gandhi quote reads, “Counter programming brought to you by Mystical Expressionist Kapproves (AKA Yourself)”

What's wrong with tap water?

Spotted this well-intentioned rant shortly after this article ran in the Times.

Who's got a beef with McDonald's?

Good ad placement for the thought bubble, but someone who can't spell salmonella doesn't like their chicken sandwiches.

Pretend graffiti is not a crime

This poster replaced an identical one without the "Villains" in fake spray paint stencil.

I didn't post it earlier since I didn't have a "before" shot.

Would your ad get better with age?

Loved this ad when I saw it a few months ago, but didn’t post it since it’s from their old "Tommy Dewar says" campaign.

Does this concept measure up?

Squeezing the ad itself is a small innovation on the idea. But you can check out this earlier post to see how I feel about using a measuring tape in ads.

How much gum is too much?

Tired of jamming handfuls of gum in your pocket every time you leave the house?

Eclipse has the answer - just keep their handy 60 piece tub in your desk or car.

How would you demonstrate an energy drink?

Sobe Energy set up this bicycle powered blender at the Shore over the Forth of July weekend.

Why don't home decor and furniture stores get paid for the brands they use in their displays?

(I took these pictures at Crate and Barrel.)

Where can I get a decent brisket?

When I first moved to NY, I was a bit homesick for some Texas cooking.

It’s no Sonny Bryan's, but they do alright.

Did you ask Santa for a new car?

Can't afford to have a new car with a big red bow in your driveway this year? Zipcar has another idea.

Can you see a better way?

If your concept depends on seeing a reflection, figure out a way to put it on a real mirror. This semi-reflective stuff just doesn’t cut it.

Can you say the F word in an ad?

I thought it was funny that both of these shows used the F word. But not funny enough to post. (Until now anyways.)

Does drinking make you happy?

Nestle’s Quik was my favorite drink when I was a kid.
(Now it’s a close second to gin and tonic.)

The first time I became aware of branding was when they changed the name from Quik to Nesquik. (Big mistake.)
So I loved two billboards they had up this year near Yankee’s stadium. The bunny drinking out of a straw in one ad lead to the glass on other billboard. I never got a picture of them, but found this one online:

Here are a few other ads in the campaign:
