Did ESPN do a real ad with fake astroturf?

I've seen this ad up in about six places since I got back from vacation:


The copy starts with "If you're responsible for the theft of the poster made from real NFL turf that was once hanging here..."
So did they really hang grass around the city first or not?

  1. Yep, there's real fake astroturf ads out there. But no, they don't have the "stolen" version underneath.

    They used real turf all right, but the jury's still out on whether the ads were really 'stolen' or just designed to be stolen so that they could put up the warning and make it a two-part ad: http://thefutureofads.com/2008/10/04/when-life-steals-your-lemons-advertise-for-lemonade/
